Rendez vous au Piccadilly à Chalon jeudi pour les amateurs de mots !
Mais connaissez vous l’histoire de ce jeu ? Quitte à la raconter autant le faire en anglais, non ?
The Scrabble was designed by the New York architect Alfred Mosher Butts. Forced into unemployment by the crisis of 1929, he created in 1931 a first version called « Lexiko ». Butts calculated the initial distribution of the 100 letters from the first page of a copy of the New York Times.
The success came in 1952 when -so the story goes-the president of Macy’s (the biggest store in New York), played Scrabble during his holidays, and consequently decided to put the game on his shelves .
The game became popular in France from 1965 thanks to animations in the « Club Méd ».
